Clinics & Services

In addition to general medical consultations, we run a range of specialist clinics and services for our patients. The services we provide are listed here.

Asthma and COPD Clinics

Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD) clinics are held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons although other times are available by arrangement.

The aim of the clinics is to ensure that symptoms and incapacity are reduced to the lowest level possible by ensuring medication is optimized and inhaler technique is satisfactory, using the best device for you. We will check your lung function by peak flow readings or spirometry, if necessary.

Medication, social and psychological aspects of respiratory disease will be discussed and a self management plan decided between patient and nurse in order to increase independence in control of symptoms.

For Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients we able to refer to the pulmonary rehabilitation courses at the Hospital. All patients are invited to attend a clinic at least once a year in order to ensure treatment is as beneficial as possible.

We also have leaflets / information regarding various self help groups which may be of interest to patients.

Diabetes Clinic

Run on a weekly basis with appointments on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons although other times are available by arrangement.

All patients with Diabetes Mellitus are invited to attend to ensure they are kept fully informed about their condition and are confident and capable of carrying out their own management programme.

The clinic aims to deal with all aspects of diabetes management, including diet, medication, exercise, psychological and work related issues. We refer patients for eye screening, to dieticians and chiropodists as appropriate.

We work closely with the Community Diabetes Nurse Team.

Diabetes is on the increase – we also aim to target patients who are ‘at risk’ of developing diabetes with the aim of encouraging self help promotion measures which might prevent or delay the onset of the condition. You can book an appointment with our Healthcare Assistants who run pre-diabetes sessions.

Cardiac Clinic

Appointments are offered on Thursday afternoons each week although other times are available by arrangement.

All patients with known coronary heart disease are invited to attend. Those with angina and those who have had a coronary artery bypass or Angioplasty are also invited to attend.

The aim of the clinic is to ensure that risk factors are minimised in order to help reduce the possibility of further problems. As well as this, emphasis is also placed on patient self management and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels are monitored and diet and exercise are reviewed and discussed. Medication, psychological and social aspects of the condition are also discussed to enable the patient to be as independent as possible.

Health Promotion and Well Person Screening

We believe in health promotion by encouraging a healthy lifestyle and by screening for preventable diseases. We can also offer smoking cessation and weight management advice. Please contact Reception to book an appointment with one of our Healthcare Assistants who would be happy to offer you support.

All women who fulfill the national criteria are offered 3-5 yearly cervical smears. Please make an appointment to see one of our Practice Nurses.

Patients over the age of 45 will be offered an NHS Health Check every 5 years.

Family Planning

We can offer advice on all methods of family planning including pre-conceptual and irreversible contraception counselling during normal surgery hours.

We offer insertion and removal of implants and coils and the Depo contraceptive injection. Please book an appointment with the Doctor to discuss your contraception options.

Once you are established on long term contraception you can book a review with our Practice Nurse.

We can supply the ‘morning after pill’ to anyone at risk of unplanned pregnancy. Please contact Reception or your local Pharmacy who will be able to offer you confidential help and advice.

Child Health and Immunisations

We run a full health surveillance programme for all the under-5s together with the Health Visitor. These important checks will assess your child’s health and development. We believe that full immunisation is vital if you wish to protect your child. We offer the full range of childhood immunisations. Please ask the Practice Nurse or Health Visitor for further information.

Travel Vaccinations and Non-NHS Services

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need to make an appointment with a nurse. This initial appointment must be at least 6 weeks before you travel. The NHS does not pay for all of the services we provide, so patients may be required to pay for some of these services. Please see attached list.

Our fees are in line with BMA approved national guidelines.

Blood Test and Minor Surgery

Specimens for blood tests ordered by your doctor are taken in the mornings only. Appointments must be booked via Reception. Please inform them if a ‘fasting’ test is required. Results of tests and letters from the hospital arrive via the Courier at lunchtime and the doctor must see the result before it can be given.

Please call between 2pm – 4pm (except Thursdays) for results.

Blood tests can also be booked at Warwick or Stratford Hospital online.

Various minor surgical operations and joint injections are also undertaken at the surgery. Your doctor will advise you when these are appropriate.
